On seeing one of my bigger pieces, such as my 2014 Battle of the Beadsmith necklace above, non-beaders often say “you must have a lot of patience “. This always makes me giggle because I’m notoriously impatient, but my years of beading have taught me that cutting too many corners only leads to cheating myself.

I’ve read lots of useful and clever tips by great beaders over the years but I am often in such a hurry to complete a project that I ignore the good advice that would enhance my beading journey and I try to cheat. I’m working on this though and developing  my patience so that my beading experience is a more peaceful one less prone to random tantrums when things don’t go my way because I tried to cheat.

Here are some of the beady tips that I won’t be ignoring in the future:

  • Pre stretch thread where appropriate 
  • Switch to a smaller needle when beads are getting full of thread
  • Check all Superduos have two clear holes

  1. I think experience in crafting is often about knowing which things have to be absolutely precise or it will result in disaster later and which things you don’t need to be so precise with. I’ve definitely fallen the wrong side of that line before! Gorgeous beadwork!
